Scott Valley FOCUS is a grassroots non-profit organization which seeks to improve the lives of everyone living in Scott Valley and the surrounding areas. Our staff consists of a Director, Program Coordinator, Americorp volunteer, Cal-Works work study team member and Personal Services Coordinator. Our staff works in coordination with a community of volunteers to keep our programs running. Through multiple funding sources and community volunteers, Scott Valley Family Resource Center offers a wide range of services and programs such as resource and referral services, Parent Education classes, playgroups, Family Fun Nights, teen music night and concerts, a computer lab with open access, Healthy Families and EDD online application assistance, Early Head Start program, WIC story time and book giveaway, car seat giveaway, bike helmet giveaway, new parent kits, nutrition education and after school enrichment. Community building activities include the annual Swap Meet, Fort Jones Friends of the Library, Scott Valley Blue Grass Festival, Artesan Fair, Annual Quartz Valley Indian Bike Rodeo, Salmon Festival and Water Festival. The long-term goal of Scott Valley FOCUS FRC is to provide a continuum of programs and services for community members from birth to 100 years of age.
The success of this grassroots organization depends on the many volunt4eers that provide programs, services and leadership to improve the life of the children, youth, families and community membrs in our great valley.
Current Project Objectives (10-11) - Funding for fiscal year 2010-2011 by First 5 Siskiyou - $39,000
- Hours of operation: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm - Monday - Friday
- Weekly playgroups in Fort Jones and Etna
- Family Fun Nights located throughout Scott Valley
- Participate in SCNAC nutrition education awareness
- Annual Haunted House/Harvest Festival Canned Food Drive
- Story time and book giveaway each month at WIC clinic for children 0-5
- Provide car seat certification and bicycle helmet safety classes
- Provide Healthy Families application assistance
- Parenting library
- Coordinate child abuse prevention activities for the month of April
- Deliver New Parent Kits to parents and caregivers of newborns throughout Scott Valley
- Educate community about benefits available through FRC
- Sponsor quarterly community wide baby shower for expectant mothers
