The McCloud Community Resource Center mccloudcrc.org was conceived in March, 2002 and after a successful summer program, the potential for even more services and programs was realized. It became a 501(c)(3) corporation in February of 2003 and is dedicated to serving the McCloud community, offering services, resources and support to all ages, from birth through retirement. Its vision is to create a safe, open-door, non-biased, nurturing environment to help individuals learn to help themselves.

Community volunteers participate in a number of special events and regular programs with over 500 community service volunteer hours per year. They help with community wide clean-up, newsletters, fundraising and staffing the office when staff is in training or out of the office. There is also a special teen volunteer program.

Partnerships include: McCloud Healthcare Clinic, State Preschool, Library, McCloud Elementary, Mercy Mt. Shasta, Siskiyou Domestic Violence, Siskiyou Arts Bus, Mt. Shasta Repertory Theater, Earth Day Committee and the local Fire Department as well as all county agencies that serve the community. Support is also provided by local businesses who advertise in the newsletter and fundraiser calendar

More than 1,000 newsletters are distributed monthly. Outreach is conducted through local churches for the teens and seniors program.

Current Project Objectives  – Funded by First 5 Siskiyou (10-11) for $37,000

  • Office will be open to the public Monday-Friday for drop-in services for resource and referral and free access to the phone, fax, copier and internet
  • Health Fair/Uninsured Outreach at school at the beginning of the school year
  • Summer Safety Fair
  • Healthy Families application assistance and Medi-Cal referrals
  • Nutrition Education, Cesar Chavez Day vegetable celebration and prevention event
  • Participation in quarterly injury prevention meetings hosted by Public Health – provide car seat and helmet classes and distribution
  • Promotion of breastfeeding through availability of local resources
  • Weekly story time with small motor skill development activity for preschool students
  • Preschool book give-aways at Family Fun Night
  • Playgroup for toddlers and pregnant families
  • Family Fun Night – dinner to engage whole family with targeted activities for preschool children
  • Summer Fun Program – three weeks of activities at the elementary school targeting school readiness and filling the summer time gap for preschoolers
  • Distribution of Parenting Kits
  • Resource library and lending resources; library for parents to increse understanding of child development and practices;
  • Resource and Referral and other drop-in services
  • Monthly newsletter – over 1,000 distribution; distribution of books and magazines to local families
  • Computer access, resume assistance, faxing – free to low income families
  • Parenting classes/Parenting Now Series
  • Parent Support groups in partnershp with counseling services at the Health Clinic
